BUSINESS GOALS (WHY YOU SHOULDN'T LISTEN TO ANYONE)

So many entrepreneurs come to me broken and lost, ready to give up on their business goals all because of one simple mistake… they listened to the wrong people. And what’s worse, those people are the ones closest to them. Sharing your business dreams with family and friends could be the biggest threat to your progress. Let’s take a look at the reasons why and what you should do instead.

THEY JUST DON'T GET IT.

I’m pretty sure that when you started your business you were bright eyed and bushy-tailed, fired up with a spark of creativity and enthusiasm. You were probably super excited to share your brilliant ideas with friends and family…that’s understandable! We want to share our business passion

But I see it time and time again- a brilliant entrepreneur shares their business dreams only to have them shot down in flames by friends who just don’t get it. At all.

Perhaps you’ve experienced this, and they’ve looked at you like you had three heads, or they asked all the wrong questions, or maybe they just straight out said, “That’ll never work!” 

Either way, the feeling and the result is the same. They suck the wind out from under your wings and leave you feeling as flat as a pancake.

So, listen up! And listen carefully, because this is the best advice I can ever give… if you want to succeed in business, continue to grow, and smash your goals… Do. Not. Listen. To. Anyone. 

Period.

DON'T be shot down in flames by people who just don't get it. just don't do it.

SELF DOUBT IS THE #1 BUSINESS KILLER

Sharing goals, plans and ideas with family and friends is simply a bad idea. I know you love them dearly, but chances are they know nothing about business. And listening to their advice or their opinions will only have you second guessing yourself.

Self-doubt is one of the biggest threats to entrepreneurs, especially when you are starting out or in the process of growth. Once that seed of doubt is planted in your mind, it’ll take some serious damage control to clear that path and get you back on track.

IT'S PERSONAL

Another reason it’s bad practice to share with people we are close to, is simply because we are close to them. We take their words to heart and any criticism is going to feel so much more personal. If the people we trust the most don’t support us, that knock to our confidence can be impossible to recover from. 

That is why so many people just give up… all because they listened to other people instead of following their own business mind. 

Don’t be one of them!

FRIENDS & FAMILY ARE PROBABLY NOT YOUR IDEAL TARGET MARKET... SO DO THEY REALLY UNDERSTAND?

SHARING GOALS WITH LOVED ONES IS A NO NO BECAUSE...

Firstly, family and friends are not your ideal clients or your consumers. The only opinions you need to concern yourself with is that of your target personas.

Secondly, they do not have your vision. Most people have to “see it to believe it” and that’s what separates you, the entrepreneur, from them. YOU have the vision, the forward thinking and the courage to dream and to take action. 

YOU have the ability to see beyond what IS to what COULD be. Why limit your creativity and success by running your ideas by someone who doesn’t have that capacity or vision?

Thirdly, listening to people who don’t support you or know anything about your business will not only drive you crazy, but it will ultimately make you stop trying! 

We aren’t robots, we need inspiration and we need encouragement. Running a business is hard enough without listening to the non-believers.

RUNNING A BUSINESS IS HARD ENOUGH WITHOUT LISTENING TO THE NON-BELIEVERS...

instead, find your tribe

To continue to progress in your business, you need people around you who support you. So, get out there and find your cheerleaders and your champions. 

Build yourself a network of peers who you can not only bounce ideas off but who will also understand your vision and support you as you work to achieve it. 

I am constantly told that while I get big results for my clients the thing they appreciate the most is my partnership. I believe in linking arms with my clients. I believe in them when no-one else would, and more importantly, when they didn’t even believe in themselves. 

It’s time to shut out the non-believers and link arms with those who get you, get your goals, and get your business.
