Your Ideal Client: How to Work Out Who to Work With

Being successful in business is all about INTENTIONS. Intentionally working towards your lifestyle goals and, one of the most critical decisions to keep your work fun, intentionally speaking to your ideal client in your marketing. 

Being intentional about your branding, positioning, messaging and offer, means you will attract your dream client- as long as you’ve done your foundation work well.

YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WHO YOUR IDEAL CLIENT IS: IT BEGINS WITH YOU.

Well, the process of finding them actually begins with YOU. You can’t know who your ideal client is if you don’t have a firm grasp on who YOU are, what you do best, and the value you bring. 

Equally, you should also have a clear idea of what is important to you, personally as well as professionally. 

For example, I work with many entrepreneurs whose main goal is to grow their business in such a way that allows them to work less but still profit so that they can spend more quality time with their family.

If you want to have more joy and freedom in life, (and who doesn’t want that?) then your lifestyle goals should be the driving force behind your business goals.

So, take some time to figure out what those lifestyle goals and business passion look like for you and take it from there. 

YOU MUST DECIDE WHO YOU LOVE WORKING WITH BEFORE YOU EVEN BEGIN THE MARKETING JOURNEY

ASK YOURSELF THESE VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS FOUNDATION QUESTIONS...

You can ask yourself these questions:

– How would you like to work? Maybe remote, face to face, part-time?

– How many hours a day/week would be ideal?

– How many clients would you ideally like to have?

– What sort of income would allow you to live the life you want?

– What would give you more joy in life, personally and professionally? 

Having those answers can be a good starting point on figuring out what sort of client you need to make that happen.

Your ideal client directs where you steer your marketing, products and services, and your pricing.

DISCOVERING YOUR DREAM CLIENT

Now that you have got to know yourself and have a greater understanding of what it is YOU want; you can turn your attention towards your potential clients. 

First of all, let me present two important questions:

– What do we really mean by ideal client? 

– And, why is it so important to know who they are?

Well, your ideal client is someone who totally gets your value, is happy, willing and able to pay your worth, and is super excited to work with you and you with them! 

Not only does knowing them make your life so much easier, but it can be the difference between success and failure when it comes to your business. Simply because your ideal client directs where you steer your marketing, products and services, and your pricing.

If you don’t have an ideal client in mind or you get it wrong, then everything else you do will be out of sync.

YOU NEED TO KNOW what their passions are, their pain points, and what is missing in their lives, their hopes, their dreams and their fears… 

HOW DO YOU FIND THE MYTHICAL CREATURE - YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

If you have an existing business, then you may have already come across your dream client. If you have an absolute favorite client, pick them apart. Break down who they are, what led them to you, and what it was that made them your fav. 

This will give you the basis of your ideal client persona, so you can start to target and attract more clients JUST like them.

But what if you’re just launching or if you have never attracted your ideal client before? Well, this is where your creativity comes in!

USE YOUR IMAGINATION...BUT BASE IT ON RESEARCH

Think about what the best client would look like to you- who they are, what makes them attractive to you, what attracted them to you, what their passions are, their pain points, and what is missing in their lives, their hopes, their dreams and their fears… To cut it short, you need to know your ideal client persona inside and out!

In doing this, you’ll be creating a buyer persona or ‘avatar’, which is basically a full character description of your dream client. 

You might keep it ‘fact’ based with a list of attributes, but the more creative you can get, the more in-depth your research and the clearer you will be of who they are and, more importantly, how to reach them. 

Many people like to make a vision board of their ideal client – or even write a story about them. Whatever allows you to be intentional in your marketing to them – I don’t care how you do it!
