One of the most fundamental things to business growth and success is visibility. You can have the best product on the market, offer exceptional value, be an expert in your field but none of that will matter if no one knows that you exist. The truth is, an invisible business can’t impact anyone. No impact, no profit, and no growth.

It really is that brutal and that simple. Yet, despite the absolute necessity of being visible, I still meet so many entrepreneurs who struggle with putting themselves out there. I understand, it’s scary to put the spotlight on ourselves, to step out into the business world and blow our own trumpet. But it doesn’t have to be. Let’s take a look at why visibility is nothing to be scared of, how to embrace it and why you really should.

THE IMPORTANCE OF VISIBILITY TO YOUR BUSINESS

When it comes to consumers, clients or customers, visibility comes first and ability second. After all, if they are to give your business a go, they’ve got to be in the know.

Every single business has its competitors and thanks to the internet, consumers and clients have more options than ever before. The trick is making it easier for people to choose you over the competition.

How do you do that?

It’s all a matter of psychology and a little thing called the ‘exposure effect’. People simply prefer things they are familiar with. The more exposure of your name, message, brand or product, the more likely consumers are to take action. Because repetition leads to familiarity, and familiarity leads to preference. 

But it goes even deeper. 

Because Visibility Equals Trust.

Today’s consumers and clients all expect to get to know you before they make a purchase decision. The traditional, cold corporate style of business is being replaced with passion-driven entrepreneurs. People are actively seeking business partners and products that they can connect with on a more authentic and genuine level.   

This is even more critical for lifestyle businesses such as coaches, wedding, and creative businesses where trust plays a huge factor on a personal level as well as a professional one.

It’s no secret that trust and transparency are two fundamental things for any growing business and visibility helps achieves both. 

For example, if your potential client can’t find you or your business anywhere on social media,  LinkedIn, or any business forum then they are going to get a little concerned. Being open and honest about who you are and what you offer shows that you have nothing to hide. 

At the end of the day, people buy from people. Step out and show clients that there is a real human being with the passion and the skills to fulfil their business needs.

You will have started your business with a goal in mind, maybe of where you’d like to be in five years. The truth is that growth doesn’t happen in the shadows and it certainly doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. 

You have to push yourself out there and actively seek out opportunities that could take you to the next level.

Being visible not only brings customers, but also brings you to the attention of potential business partners, affiliates, and possibilities of exciting new ventures. You never know who is looking at your profile or reading your content. But if it’s not out there to be seen in the first place, then it’s certain that no one is!

As well as the face-to-face real world visibility, being present online is crucial for any business. But what if social media and networking isn’t naturally your thing? How do you get over yourself and your fears? 

All you need is a well thought out plan— a visibility strategy. Start by building solid branding foundations by asking yourself the following questions:

  • – What value do you bring?
    – How will working with you impact others’ lives for the better?
    – Who is your ideal client/customer?
    – Where are they?
    – Where do you want to position yourself in the market?
    – What is your unique selling proposition?

  • To communicate yourself correctly and confidently, you have to know without a doubt who you are and what you bring to the table. Clarity creates confidence. 

AT THE END OF THE DAY, PEOPLE BUY FROM PEOPLE.

WHAT DOES VISIBILITY REALLY LOOK LIKE?

First of all, being visible does not mean a mindless blanket approach. Identify the best way to grow and where. Be visible but be relevant!

Remember your branding foundation — who is your ideal client and where do they spend their time, online or off? 

With a little research into your target market you can decide where to focus your time. The best approach is to target a couple of channels, such as social media, Facebook Lives, Instagram stories, YouTube, or networking groups. 

Then, brainstorm your approach for the particular channels. For example – for Facebook Lives it is having a content calendar (which we can help you with), while for networking, it’s having something to offer free that you can talk about.

Once you have all that in place, it’s just about getting started! Get out there and consistently turn up — blog weekly, Instagram daily, post on your Facebook wall every other day. Just do it!

Don’t worry about talking to no-one or who might be watching. Keep going because consistency is key. Plus, as with everything in life, the more you do it, the better you become. Practice makes perfect after all!
